“Born
in Devon and moving to Dorset in 1987, I feel fortunate
to have always lived on the South Coast and my paintings
are predominantly responses to open seas and the elements.
My work does not concentrate on particular viewpoints
or coastlines, but more the strong influences that I
have from experiences of open spaces and reflective
moments of time spent with the natural environment.
Working
from my Poole based studio, ‘earth’, I paint
spontaneously and often the mood and emotion of the
painting can change several times before completion.
My paintings develop from memories of place, - the play
of light, the vast perspectives of open seas and skies.
As
an avid collector, I am constantly grouping and linking
visual ideas. My assemblages and conceptual works look
at the form, beauty and simplicity of natural materials.
I place and position small constructions to collectively
become something ‘new’, bringing attention
to everyday things of beauty, but observed in a different
context, outside of their natural habitat.”
